Kathmandu. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based livestock insurance programme has been implemented in some districts of Nepal with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The program was implemented under the leadership of United Ajod Insurance and technical support was provided by an organization named Plantsat.
The program, which came into effect last June, has launched Nepal’s first AI-enabled digital cow and buffalo insurance. The insurance scheme has been launched in Humla, Lalitpur and Achham districts and is expected to help protect the livelihood of small farmers of Nepal.
AI-based technology has made it easier to identify whether an animal is insured or not in the event of an animal dying due to a disease or accident. AI compares photos and videos of dead animals with those taken before insuring an insured animal, which allows insurance companies to decide whether to pay a claim or not.
This technology has also made it easier for farmers to get insurance without having to visit the office of the company for insurance claim. The farmers can register the details of the loss with photos of the dead animals through mobile apps even while sitting at home.
It is also necessary to use the app for livestock insurance, you do not have to go to the insurance company’s office.
The insurance comes with PlantSat’s state-of-the-art biometric technology, where AI simplifies insurance claims by verifying the identity of an insured animal based on its muzzle. Moreover, the technology will prove to be a boon for livestock insurance for the insured, making enrollment, fraud-free insurance and truly accessible even in the remotest corner of Nepal.
The livestock insurance mobile app developed by PlantSat is working offline as well.
