Invoxia and Wamiz team up on a wearable pet tracker for cats and dogs

Keep tabs on your wandering pet with geolocation tracking

Simply named the Pet Tracker, users will be able attach the module to any regular collar and keep a tab on their companion’s location through a dedicated companion app. Weighing 15g and measuring in at 42 x 24 x 17 mm, the tracker has a waterproof rating of IP67 so your companion can submerge it in water up to a meter deep.

You also don’t need to worry about taking the Pet Tracker off your pet’s collar and charging it daily alongside your other gadgets, with battery life stretching to six months plus the ability to recharge it when it runs out of juice.

The headline feature here though is the location smarts. Aiming to put the owners of wandering pets at ease, personalised security zones can be defined within the app, while notifications can also be pinged if the pet exits this designated area.

Precise location, naturally, is also available, and tracking frequency can even be set to notify the user every 10 minutes when their pet is on the move. If that’s not enough, notifications can also be sent every 3 minutes if the wearable is located outside the owner’s pre-set geofence.

This kind of monitoring is nothing new to this space, of course, but Wamiz’s partnership with Invoxia does mean it’s one of the few pet trackers to work on frequencies in both Europe and the US – the low power, wide-area networks (LPWAN) SigFox and LoRa will be compatible with the tracker.

And while this kind of coverage typically doesn’t come without a monthly or annual fee tacked on, Invoxia indicates that the $99 Pet Tracker will come with a three-year subscription to both of the networks. Deliveries are set to begin in June, though pet owners looking to pick one up can pre-order from Invoxia’s website today.
