Last April, Henry Schein announced it would be spinning off and merging its animal health business—Henry Schein Animal Health—with Vets First Choice, a technology-driven health care services provider for companion animal and equine veterinarians. The partnership signaled a stronger investment in technology for Henry Schein Animal Health, which has become well known for its clinical products and practice management solutions.
Last month, the pair announced additional information about the anticipated company, including an estimated launch date (February 7) and new name. Initially, the moniker was to be Vets First Corp, but the 2 groups have confirmed that moving forward the company will do business as Covetrus.
According to a joint press release, Covetrus will combine leading practice management software, prescription management, multichannel client engagement services, and supply chain infrastructure to promote connectivity between companion animal, equine, and large animal veterinarians and their clients. The company will employ more than 5,000 people across 25 countries.
Until the merger is consummated, the companies will continue to operate independently. The Covetrus executive leadership team and board of directors have also been named.
